Jayne Ellspermann

Award-winning and nationally recognized education leader

Jayne Ellspermann is a nationally recognized and award winning school leader who is dedicated to working with schools to ensure student success. During her career in education she served in a variety of positions including teacher, curriculum coordinator, assistant principal, principal, and district administrator. For 25 years she served as a school principal at the elementary, middle, and high school level and has been recognized as Florida’s Arts Administrator of the Year, Florida’s Literacy Leader of the Year, and Florida’s Principal of the Year. In 2015 she was recognized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) as the National Principal of the Year. Serving school leaders at the state and national level she has been president of the Florida Association of Secondary School Principals, president the Florida Association of School Administrators, and president of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. She believes her most important responsibility is to support school leaders create a school culture where everyone can grow and student achievement soars. Her personal mission is to create opportunities for individuals to exceed their perceived potential.

Kerry Gallagher, JD

Kerry Gallagher is the Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Massachusetts. She is also the Director of K-12 Education for ConnectSafely.org, an EdSurge Columnist, and an active blogger. Her multi-award winning blog can be found at www.KerryHawk02.com and she is on social media @KerryHawk02.

Prior to moving into administration, Kerry served as a middle school teacher, high school teacher, and then digital learning specialist for over 15 years. Kerry received the 2014 Yale-Lynn Hall Teacher Action Research Prize for her submission on the use of mobile devices for a paperless public school classroom.

In 2015, she was a PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator, the Family Online Safety Institute recognized her with the Outstanding Achievement Award, and she was a MassCUE Featured Educator. In 2016, Kerry was an ASCD Emerging Leader and received the MassCUE Pathfinder Award. In 2017, Kerry was selected as a Future Ready Instructional Coaches Thought Leader, and in 2018, she received SmartBrief’s Annual Educator Content Award for her EdSurge column. Kerry is a TEDx and keynote speaker and also shares her expertise by designing professional learning for school districts around the country.

Dr. Akil Ross

“He flunked the third grade. Now he’s the best high school principal in the nation.” This was the headline from the local newspaper after he was announced the National Principal of the Year. Dr. Akil Ross’ story is a testimony of the power education has to transform a struggling student into a high performing student. He teaches strategies for empowering students. As a high school principal, Dr. Ross, received many awards and recognitions the Palmetto’s Finest Award, Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Lighthouse Award, several national rankings in academics from Newsweek, Niche, Washington Post and US News & World Report. His school earned 20 State Championships in 8 Years (14 State Championships in Athletics, 4 State Championships in Marching Band and 2 NJROTC State Championship including 1 National Championship). As principal of Chapin High School, Dr. Ross was named the 2017 SC Secondary Principal of the Year and the 2018 NASSP National Principal of the Year. He was featured in The State Newspaper, 20 under 40, Class of 2017, Principal Leadership Magazine, The Rotarian Magazine and Columbia Business Monthly, 50 Most Influential, 2018. Dr. Ross is currently an Adjunct Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of South Carolina and is author of the book, Empowering the Heart. He started HeartEd LLC to share strategies to further his vison of a future where every community Empowers every child.
