3 Essential Tech Tips to Keep the Kids Entertained on Holidays

While we all want to see our children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews’ shining faces this holiday, let’s face it. Chances are they are going to be running around (or curled up on the couch) with their attention buried in their gadgets. Or, you might host a group of your child’s friends around the holidays, where they will want to play video games or stream movies or shows. Whatever the situation, the last thing that you want to hear about is how your WiFi is slow and how they can’t connect to it.

With slow WiFi, things like streaming videos, TV shows, and online gaming are frustrating experiences. But when your WiFi network is at its peak performance, getting easily connected is a smooth process.

Make sure everything is prepared this holiday season, including your WiFi home network. By setting up your home network for its optimal performance, you secure strong, reliable WiFi, and zero gripes while the kids (and adults) are entertained for hours.

Here are three ways that you can make sure that your network is in top shape to entertain the kids this holiday season:

Make sure your router is good to go

If your router isn’t working, then your whole network isn’t working. Make sure that your router is rebooted and ready to go. Also, it’s a great idea to make sure that your router and modem (usually part of your router device) are centrally located in the home. In other words, wherever the kids are, make sure the router is close by.

Extend your WiFi range

You can use a WiFi network extender and network adapter to help your WiFi signal reach every corner of your house. This way, no matter where the kids end up, there’s no chance that their video games or movies will cut out.

Secure your network

A secure network not only keeps you and your guests protected while connected, but it keeps unwanted “guests” from connecting to your network, too. Unwanted guests don’t always mean “cyber attackers,” it could mean that your neighbor is free loading your WiFi.

Too many people on one network will make your speeds suffer. And, suffering speeds means lost connection, which means unhappy kids.

Make sure that your network is secured with a secure network address name and strong password. If you feel that unwanted parties are trying to connect, change your password to another strong option. This way, unwanted network guests should be booted off and won’t know the new password to re-connect.

The holiday ends, but your WiFi performance shouldn’t

It’s important to note that while the holiday comes and goes in a flash, your WiFi network preparations and updates are not all for nothing. The holidays are a great excuse to get your WiFi in gear and performing its best so that you can reap the benefits all year long.

Home networking can be overwhelming, especially if you are tackling it during peak holiday season. But it doesn’t have to be! WiFi management systems help you get your network running smoothly and they take on the load of monitoring your network’s performance for you. This way, you don’t have to monitor your network like a hawk, and as a result can have happy kids, happy guests, and you can enjoy the holidays fully connected without lifting a finger.
